- They erected a building in the middle of the historical Dokuzçeşmeler Street! -
Recently, a new one has been added to the damage done to the historical regions of Buca. However, this case made people say "it only happens in jokes". Although one of the biggest problems of Buca is the traffic problem, a building was started to be erected in the middle of the "Dokuzçeşmeler Sokak", now known as the 24th street, which connects Adatepe District to Dokuzçeşmeler Square.
Due to the constructions carried out in recent years, the upper neighborhood of Buca has already undergone a great change and the old historical appearance has been replaced by irregular and cramped apartments. Due to the apartments, the number of people per square meter increased in the region and important problems such as traffic problems, parking problems and noise pollution occurred. The construction of a building in the middle of Dokuzçeşmeler Street (24th street), which plays an important role in relieving the traffic problem, which is perhaps the biggest of these problems, caused a great reaction from the local people, and they thought, "So what will happen now?" brought the question.
- The claim that the trees in the side garden will be cut -
Another claim made about how the traffic will be handled by planting a building in the middle of the street is that a part of the garden of the Barff Mansion next to the street will be used to pave the way. However, such a move means cutting down trees on the side of the garden facing the road. Thus, trees will be sacrificed for the sake of concrete once again in the town of Buca, which is already longing for green spaces.
The parcelling of the 24th street, which is one of the most important streets of the upper quarter, which preserved its existence even in the Ottoman Period, was another confusing issue. When the Greeks left Buca in 1922, the Greek houses in the region were given to the immigrants who came to Buca. There was also the 24th street in this period, and considering that the middle of the street could not be given to any family, "how is it that today the land of a one-story house adjacent to the street can be expanded and an apartment building to cover the street?" question comes to mind.
- It was one of the oldest streets of Buca -
Dokuzçeşmeler Sokak, which connects the upper quarter of Buca to Karakolönü via Dokuzçeşmeler, was one of the oldest streets in Buca, even on old maps. It was the most convenient and shortest way to reach the drinking water delivered to the village from the Kangöl region during the Ottoman Period, to pray in Upper Agios Ioannis Church, and to reach the Bosnian Quarter after the Republic. Today, it seems that both the historic street and the trees of the Barff Mansion (if a new road is opened) will be sacrificed for the sake of concrete. It will probably not be the last among the many things sacrificed for the sake of concretization in Buca.
But the main question to ask is: To what extent?
