- Hundreds of little students gain health and joy here -

Red Crescent Youth Institution's Buca Health and Education Camp, which brings health to five hundred children every year, was opened this year as well, and preparations for the opening of the second period have begun.

Three hundred poor and weak students from İzmir, Manisa, Balıkesir, Aydın, Denizli and Muğla were recruited for the first period of this year's camp, their health was taken care of and each of the children gained their joy by gaining four or five kilograms in a month.

Established in Kızılay Garden among dense pine trees and having the comfort of a boarding school, the camp is located in Buca, one of the summer resorts of İzmir.

Children get up at seven in the morning and go to breakfast after cleaning, morning gymnastics and flag ceremony.

Having completed all their work at eight o'clock, the children, with their teacher at their head, start working in sports, music, representation, painting, business, nature study, library, newspaper and collecting groups.

Children who eat their meals at 12 noon all at once switch to cleaning and go to sleep at 13 o'clock. All these movements are done with gong and order. Teachers, like governesses, take care of all the movements of the children, after they reach complete rest, they also eat their meals and take a rest. At this hour, in the camp of three hundred people, there is not a single sound other than the sounds of cicadas.

The camp manager says: “Buca Kızılay Camp, which was opened for the first time in July of 942, had 150 people. We increased this number to 300 with the valuable assistance of the Red Crescent Headquarters and the Youth Institution. When we came to the garden, we had nothing. As you can see today, we have a permanent kitchen, bathroom, shower, movie theater, barracks and all kinds of abundant bedding. The heart desires that our camp can accommodate a thousand people. However, with the valuable help of our people, we will be able to achieve this soon.”
