- The massacre of history continues in Yaylacık -
The great change that has been going on for the last few years continues in the historical Yaylacık Neighborhood, the first settlement area of Buca. Finally, with the demolition of the houses on the plot opposite the old Yaylacık Kahvesi on Basari Street in Yaylacik District, the eyes were turned to the authorities, who remained silent about the preservation of history.
Although the Dumlupınar Neighborhood, known as the lower quarter of Buca, is within the protected area, the houses in the historical neighborhood have been largely preserved until the last few years, with the Yaylacık Neighborhood, known as the upper quarter, being left outside the protected area. and many historical Yaylacık houses began to be demolished one by one.
Although not all of the houses that were destroyed in the last demolitions were historical, a historical Greek house on the corner of Basari Street and 164th Street was demolished as a result of the recent demolitions.
This historical Greek house located on the corner of two streets no longer exists.Yaylacık Neighborhood, founded by the Greeks in the 1700s, is known as the oldest settlement of Buca. Towards the end of the 1800s, this is the region where Muslims first settled. After the Greeks left Buca in 1922, the first Muslim settlement area was established here, especially with the migrations from Thessaloniki and Bosnia. Since Yaylacık Neighborhood is not in the protected area, it is open to all kinds of construction and it seems that this historical Buca district will disappear completely unless at least historical Greek houses are identified one by one and taken into protection status.
