- Kırklar village got its real name -
The village of Kırklar, 18 km southeast of Buca, got its real name decades later.
Upon the dissatisfaction of the village people with the name Kırıklar, the village headman Sinan Öğüt submitted a petition to the municipality for a name change on January 15, 2020. He stated that in the past there were forty deposits in the village, that the number forty was sacred to the nomads, that the name of the neighborhood was changed as "Kırklar" in 1956 and that the village elders said that the old name of the village was known as "Kırklar". This situation was expressed in the first session of the August council meeting of Buca Municipality. As a result of the voting, it was decided to change the name of Kırıklar and change the name of the village to Kırklar again.
Speaking after the reinstatement of the Kırklar name, Buca Mayor Erhan Kılıç said, “The struggle of Kırklar Mahallesi has finally concluded. Until the 1950s, our commissions reached the data. We have corrected this mistake with a parliamentary decision years later. I hope this decision will be beneficial for the whole Kırklar Neighborhood," he said.
- Became a precedent for Kızılçullu and Tahtalı -
After the restoration of the name of the Kırklar village of Buca, the other two settlements of Buca whose names were changed due to political reasons, Kızılçullu district and Tahtalı village came to mind. The fact that Kırıklar was Kırklar set a precedent for the return of the names Kızılçullu and Tahtalı.
- What happened? -
It is common in Turkey to change place names in the past for various reasons. The name of the Kızılçullu district of Buca, which is more commonly known as "Şirinyer" today, was changed to "Şirinyer" in 1955 due to the fact that its location in a place with NATO's name "Kızıl" might pose a problem. A similar situation occurred for the historical Tahtalı village, which was founded on the skirts of Nif Mountain in Buca, and according to a claim, the name Tahtalı was changed to "Resources" because it "resembles woodcutters".
