Old Hospital demolished, splendor of Forbes Mansion revealed

- Old Hospital demolished, splendor of Forbes Mansion revealed -

The demolition decision was taken for Seyfi Demirsoy Hospital, which was damaged after the earthquake in Izmir in 2020, and it was announced that a new state hospital with horizontal architecture would be built on the same land instead. While the construction of the new hospital continued, the old hospital building was demolished with the help of machinery. As a result, the magnificence of Forbes Mansion, located at the top of Forbes Hill, emerged decades later.

- It all started with a sanatorium -

In Buca, which has been known for its clean air that has been good for patients since ancient times, it was decided to establish a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients in the early 1940s. First, De Jongh Mansion was converted into a sanatorium in 1944. However, this mansion was small and an additional building was built next to it in 1947. After a while, the capacity began to be insufficient again. Forbes Mansion, whose ownership passed to the state after the sale of the land of the Scottish origin Forbes family, began to be used as a sanatorium in 1955. Two years later, although there were much more suitable places, it was decided to build a huge workers' insurance hospital next to the Forbes Mansion. The new insurance hospital building of the period, built on the hill where the Forbes Mansion is located in 1957, has shadowed the mansion's unique position ever since. It was not even possible to see the hill from the hospital building, especially when looking from the direction of the horse stud farms. With the construction of a new hospital in Buca, Buca both got a new hospital and got rid of the ugly neighbor of the Forbes Mansion. It is not known what will be done to replace the destroyed hospital. However, no other building is expected to be erected in its place.

- The old Forbes outbuilding is gone -

The old outbuildings, located in the area where the new hospital buildings were built, just below the Forbes Mansion, were demolished because they were in the middle of the construction zone. It was presumed, although not certain, that the Forbes family had outbuildings.
