Exchange memories will live in this house
The 113-year-old building restored by the IZMIR Metropolitan Municipality in Buca Kasaplar Square will come to life again as the 'Migration and Exchange Moment House'.
The two-storey historical building, which was restored by the Metropolitan Municipality in Buca Butchers Square and was organized as the 'Migration and Exchange Memorial House' by the City Archive and Museums Branch, will be opened to visitors on Tuesday, October 10 at 17.30. Many individuals and institutions donated for the objects, photographs and documents to be exhibited in the Memorial House, which was prepared to record the story of the migration from Balkan countries to Turkey, especially the 'Turkish-Greek Exchange', and the cultural-social changes it created. Among the objects are a piece of brick brought as a souvenir from a house in Crete, a 90-year-old mirror, clothes belonging to exchanged families, textiles and kitchen utensils, and liquidation requests related to the exchange, identity cards and similar documents. The Migration and Exchange Memorial House keeps alive the memories of the refugees who experienced the Turkish-Greek population exchange and their 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation relatives.
