A study that sheds light on the history of Buca
Buca Municipality, which took action to reveal the historical past and archaeological values of the city, completed the first archaeological survey in the history of the district. In the research studies carried out in cooperation with Dokuz Eylül University (DEU), very valuable immovable cultural assets were identified at various points in the district. Dr. During the survey conducted by Ali Kazım Öz, many ancient ruins were found in the district center and in Kaynaklar, Kırıklar and Belenbaşı areas.
Excavation work will begin after the permit
It has been determined that the archaeological and architectural remains belong to a wide period of time, starting from the Archaic Period (6th century BC) to the Late Ottoman Period (19th century). As a result of the survey, it was also determined that Buca was a densely populated area and occupied an important place in İzmir's defense and trade. With the study, which is the first survey carried out in the city, detailed examinations were also carried out on the monuments and sites that have been registered or have never been studied before, especially the Kızılçullu Aqueducts.
It has been reported that the results of the work carried out by the Municipality of Buca and the Archeology Department of Dokuz Eylül University have been submitted to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the excavations will begin as soon as possible if the necessary permits are obtained.
