- Bayramyeri's century-old pine fell victim to the construction -
The historical pine tree located on the 105th (newly named Periha Anna) street behind the 23 Nisan Primary School in Buca was cut down recently and another symbol of Buca was sacrificed for the sake of construction.
According to the testimonies of the people of Buca, who remember the old days, a fair was held under the pine tree on the feast days of the 1960s and 1970s - and possibly even earlier. For this reason, the people of Buca used to call it "Bayramyeri" or sometimes "Çamaltı". When there were two pine trees, a Ferris wheel was built between two pine trees. Many people, from acrobats to peddlers, gather under the pine tree and in those days, under the pine tree was a place of entertainment, especially for children. Many people, from those who make money by taking children around with horses, to meatballs, pickles, and those who rent their motorbikes, would both make their money and have fun in Bayramyeri for the children of Buca.
As can be seen from the old photographs, it is seen that there were two huge pine trees in the early 1900s. In addition, today's 105th street was called "Çifteçamlar Sokak" because of the double pine trees in the first years of the republic. It is not known when the first pine tree was cut down, but it is still visible in a photo from the 1930s. The second pine tree, on the other hand, managed to survive to the present day despite all the construction, but it was finally defeated by the endless ambition of human beings and the indifference of the people of the big city.
The small house next to the felled pine tree was also destroyed, and now a large pile of rubble can be seen along with the pieces of the tree. It is probable that tens of thousands of new houses will be added to the houses in Buca by removing the remains of the tree and the rubble in the near future, and while the greenery in Buca continues to decrease, the grayness will continue to increase.
